San Gabriel, Los Angeles County
San Gabriel incorporated in 1913 and calls itself the City with a Mission. The Mission Playhouse, a grand theater next to the old church, was built in 1927 to stage a pageant about early California and still hosts concerts. Along Valley Boulevard, the shopping plazas that opened in the 1990s made the city a regional destination for Chinese restaurants and markets.
